Love Letters to the Black Woman (LLBW), which is a multi-artistic show that pays homage to black women through spoken word poetry, videography, music, and art. Please join us for a pop-up version of the show at Books & Books that will feature a few of the poems and then a conversation discussing the project.
Rudy Jean-Bart is an Assistant Professor of History at Broward College where he teaches African American History as well as American History. Jean-Bart is also a spoken word artist and the creator of the show Love Letters to the Black Woman, which features his poetry, a band, videos, and art. All components of the show are artfully woven together to provide a powerful homage to black women. Jean-Bart uses his performance to share his belief that black women are utterly amazing, breathtakingly beautiful, doggedly determined, extremely resilient, and yet, under appreciated. A Pop-Up version of the show features some of Jean-Bart’s poems as well as a discussion about the project and how we all can go about showing black women the appreciation they deserve.
