The Café at Books & Books at the Adrienne Arsht Center

This month marks the beginning of fresh collaboration with Florida Grand Opera. Before the premier of each opera in the 2017-18 season, our Chef Allen’s Farm-t0-Table dinner will be inspired by the opera and preceded by a mini-lecture by FGO Director of Outreach, Justin Moss. Come for the lecture at 6pm and stay for the 5-course farm-fresh meal for only $25 per person. You’ll get a taste of each of the operas premiering at the Arsht!

This week: HARRY POTTER
We don’t think there’s anyone in the world who hasn’t heard of Harry Potter, but just in case…Harry Potter is a series of fantasy novels written by British author J.K. Rowling. The novels chronicle the life of a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Since the release of the first novel, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, on 26 June 1997, the books have found immense popularity, critical acclaim and commercial success worldwide. They have attracted a wide adult audience as well as younger readers, and are often considered cornerstones of modern young adult literature. RSVP HERE

This week: GAME OF THRONES
George R.R. Martin‘s best-selling book series “A Song of Ice and Fire” is brought to the screen as HBO sinks its considerable storytelling teeth into the medieval fantasy epic. It’s the depiction of two powerful families — kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and honest men — playing a deadly game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, and to sit atop the Iron Throne. RSVP HERE

This week: ALICE IN WONDERLAND
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (commonly shortened to Alice in Wonderland) is an 1865 fantasy novel written by English mathematician Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll. It tells of a girl named Alice falling through a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children. It is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre. Its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre. RSVP HERE
