The American Library Association (ALA) announced the top books, video and audio books for children and young adults – including the Caldecott, Newbery and Printz awards – at its Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Here are a list of the finalists:
John Newbery Medal for the most outstanding contribution to children’s literature:

Pura Belpré Awards honoring a Latino writer and illustrator whose children’s books best portray, affirm and celebrate the Latino cultural experience:
Dancing Hands: How Teresa Carreño Played the Piano for President Lincoln by Margarita Engle and illustrated by Rafael López
This year’s Coretta Scott King–Virginia Hamilton Award for Lifetime Achievement was given to Mildred D. Taylor, author of the Logan Family saga, which concluded this month with the release of All the Days Past, All the Days to Come.
