Coral Gables Gallery Night Opening: Pablo Cano
ARTIST STATEMENT :
38 years ago, Books & Books, 265 Aragon Ave, Coral Gables was known as the Meeting Point Art Gallery.
In 1980, my first one- man show at Meeting Point was titled “Pupil Progress”. I thought it would be fitting to title my new show at Books & Books “Pupil Progress II”.
Since 2014 I started creating prints at the Bakehouse Art Complex. An intensive process began of relearning the art of monotype printing and copper plate etching techniques. The images in this exhibition illustrate a romantic journey full of personal symbolism, exile, children’s toys including animals, Angels and Madonna’s *Please see attachment. Untitled Etching 2018 3” X 4” Castles, exploding volcanoes, pirate ships, planetary bodies, and imagined galaxies are my favorite backdrops for these cast of characters. I escape into a black and white world of moonlit nights inspired by theater, film noir, and black and white photography. This is a selection of my favorite prints created at the Bakehouse
from 2015 to 2018. My thanks to the Bakehouse Art Complex, Master Print Maker Christina Keller, Cristina Nosti and Books & Books. Special thanks to Artist Maria Lino, my Mother, Margarita Cano and my Sister, Isabel Hernandez
for their support and encouragement. This exhibition is dedicated to my Grandnephew, Jordan Alexander Hernandez.
