Gregg Shapiro and Brendan Walsh
Florida poets Brendan Walsh, author of fort lauderdale (Grey Book Press, 2019), and Gregg Shapiro, author of Sunshine State (NightBallet Press, 2019), read from their new Florida-themed chapbooks.
Gregg Shapiro observes and writes about his adopted state with wisdom, passion, a quiet humor, and a sharp eye for detail.
Brendan’s latest chapbook, released in June 2019 through Grey Book Press, examines, with humor and dread, a near-future Floridian landscape consumed by relentless hurricanes, biblical floods, and an apathetic population. Through it all, however, is reverence for Florida’s incredible landscape, and the hope that it will rebound and replenish itself long after the plague of colonization.
About the Poets:
Gregg Shapiro is the author of seven books including the 2019 chapbooks, Sunshine State (NightBallet Press) and More Poems About Buildings and Food (Souvenir Spoon Books). An entertainment journalist, whose interviews and reviews run in a variety of regional LGBT and mainstream publications and websites, Shapiro lives in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with his husband Rick and their dog Coco.
Brendan Walsh has lived and taught in South Korea, Laos, and South Florida. His work has recently appeared in Glass Poetry, Indianapolis Review, Wisconsin Review, Baltimore Review, and other journals. He is the author of Make Anything Whole (Five Oaks Press), Go (Aldrich Press), Buddha vs. Bonobo (Sutra Press), and the only flesh to feed you (YellowJacket Press).
