About Katherine Magnoli
Born with a birth defect that affected her spine but not her mind, Katherine Magnoli, has been living an active life for over 35 years. Growing up as the youngest in a family of seven children, Katherine has always had an outgoing personality. She has also overcome many obstacles making her a prime public speaker . Katherine’s traits do not stop there she likes to push herself to new limits and over the last 10 years has developed many other forms of advocacy.
First and foremost ; at the age of 26, Katherine Magnoli, published the first of four books in the series The Adventures of KatGirl. Her stories about a superhero in a wheelchair who helps kids who are being bullied has been read by many children throughout Florida and beyond. She is also a co-host for an online radio show entitled Behind the Chair, where and her friend Douglas Longhini, interview people with and without disabilities about their efforts to make the disability community stronger.
Katherine has also dabbled in some modeling as a Bold Beauty Project Model. These are a collection of photos of women disability that help change the perception of Beauty. In 2017, Katherine was crowned Ms. Wheelchair Florida, where she used her platform of Youbilities to advocate for beach access. She successfully accomplished the placement of beach mats being placed in 6 different locations with the help of both the Mayor of Sunny Isles Beach and Bal Harbour who also got them in Surfside.
Another great accomplishment is Katherine’s development of an educational program entitled Abilties Program and Activities. Her efforts helped expand the criteria of education for children of all ages. She did this by helping educate about both historical figures and celebrities/athletes who were able to overcome obstacles while living with a disability. Miami Dade Public School District used the activities during their Disability Awareness Month and Inclusion Week in 2018. Being a person who has overcome many forms of bullying, Katherine’s hope is that her efforts of advocacy help create a more inclusive world for all of us.
Currently, Katherine is promoting her most recent literary effort entitled Pete the Private Eye, about a boy who is living with legal blindness and uses his magical cane, heightened sense of hearing, and the language of Braille to solve mysteries of lost objects. She hopes that these stories will help bring awareness to the abilities not only people with mobility issues have but those living with all disabilities. Her main goal as an advocate is to showcase what we all can do regardless of our challenges.
