It is analogous to the mystery of ruins, to unfinished sentences, to the poetry of Rilke and Gluck, to that which makes us wonder and reach conclusions in the complexity…

ELLEN GRANT: Nature Garage Friday, November 3, 7-10pm Coral Gables   Drawing, painting, and sculpting are, for me, deeply rooted in organic forms. Over the past few years, I have focused on creating textures and patterns - for example, lines that spiral, encircle, radiate, and interweave one another - using overlooked, ordinary, recycled materials. Experimenting with everything from newspaper and cardboard tubes to packaging and plastic, I transform these materials into sculptural objects; often, I make a series of small…

May 4 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Books & Books in Coral Gables, 265 Aragon Ave
Coral Gables, FL 33134

Charles Bernstein Paintings of Florida Maps The idea of painting maps appealed to me as a way of showing landscape from a different perspective, to suggest vast space by a simplicity of means. The National Map (TNM Download) of the U.S. Geological Survey served as reference for these nearly-abstract paintings of Florida’s islands, keys and inlets. Areas of land and sea are reduced to flat expanses of closely-related colors, differentiated by contrasts in tone. In Books and Books Gallery, the twelve…
